Zhadan ist dabei, sich zur stärksten Stimme der jungen ukrainischen Literatur zu entwickeln - und zum Antipoden von Juri Andruchowytsch. Auch Zhadans Ich-Erzähler ist ständig im Zug oder in bizarren Landschaften unterwegs. Doch es zieht ihn nicht zu den Ruinen der habsburgischen Vergangenheit, sondern in die Industriebrachen des Donbass im Südosten des Landes - an die Orte des von den Sowjets zerschlagenen Anarchokommunismus. Niemand scheint sich an Nestor Machno zu erinnern. Anarchismus, das gab es nie. Bis er im November 2004 in Charkiw, zu Füßen des "Fuck-Lenin-Denkmals", wiederaufersteht.
