Destandardisierung, Differenzierung, Individualisierung – dies sind drei wichtige der zahlreichen Diagnosen, die beschreiben sollen, wie sich die Lebensläufe von Männern und Frauen in den letzten Jahrzehnten verändert haben. Simone Scherger nimmt diese drei Stichworte auf und untersucht ihren theoretischen und empirischen Gehalt. Auf der Grundlage einer Diskussion der Begriffe und ihrer theoretischen Implikationen nimmt sie mittels des Sozio-Ökonomischen Panels einen umfassenden Kohortenvergleich des Timings von Lebenslauf-Übergängen vor. Im Ergebnis erscheint die dramatisierende Annahme, dass sich die bisherigen Zeitstrukturen von Lebensläufen auflösen, unangemessen. Nur für einige der betrachteten Übergänge kann tatsächlich von Destandardisierungsprozessen gesprochen werden. Diese verlaufen allerdings nach bestimmten Mustern, wie die vorgestellten Analysen zeigen.
