Die Auswahl und Qualität seiner Originalaufnahmen sind beeindruckend und reichen von Weimar über Wolfbüttel nach Peking oder Cambridge. Der Aufbau ist chronologisch von der Antike bis zum 21. Jahrhundert. Hin und wieder gibt es kleine Exkurse zu Spezialthemen. Mit Anmerkungen, Bibliografie, Bildnachweis und Register. - Der Preis ist bei diesem Prachtband gerechtfertigt. Der letzte Titel dieser Art war "Die Bibliothek" (ID-G 4/14). Wesentlich informativer und umfassender als z.B. das preisgünstigere Coffee Table Book: "Büchertempel" (ID-G 50/21). Allen, die eine entsprechende Zielgruppe dafür haben wärmstens empfohlen. (2-3)
