Unter heutigen Rahmenbedingungen ist die länderübergreifende Steuerung und Gestaltung von Sortimenten zentraler Gegenstand internationaler Handelsunternehmen. Längst sind vor allem marktmächtige Handelsunternehmen Gate-Keeper im Absatzkanal und gestalten ihre Vertriebskonzepte, in deren Fokus meist das endverbraucherorientierte Konzept des Category Managements steht. Basierend auf Stellgrößen der Sortimentsgestaltung und -steuerung untersucht die Autorin empirisch, inwieweit Handelsunternehmen länderübergreifend standardisiert bzw. differenziert vorgehen. Ausgehend vom Planungsansatz des Category Managements wird für die länderübergreifende Sortimentssteuerung ein strategischer internationaler Planungsansatz entwickelt. Ebenfalls werden die Determinanten sowie Motive der länderübergreifenden Sortimentsgestaltung und -steuerung auf Basis von Category Management dargelegt.
