Als das Rheinland nach der Niederlage Napoleons an Preußen fiel, trafen zwei Notariatsformen aufeinander: das preußische mit der Advokatur verbundene Notariat und das französische Nur-Notariat. Während die Altpreußen fortan das preußische System der Verbindung auch im Rheinland etablieren wollten, kämpften die Rheinländer um ihr rheinisches Recht und das selbständige Notariat. Erst mit der Bundesnotarordnung, die davon ausgeht, dass es sich beim Nur-Notariat und beim Anwaltsnotariat um gleichberechtigte, in ihrem Umfang beizubehaltende Notariatsformen handelt, fand die Diskussion um die richtige Notariatsform ihren (vorläufigen) Abschluss. Die Arbeit schildert den zeitlichen Ablauf und die inhaltlichen Aspekte der Diskussion.
