Die Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit Viktor Pelevins Roman Čapaev i Pustota und rückt dabei die literarischen Verfahren des Autors, die seinen Schreibstil charakterisieren, in den Mittelpunkt der Analyse. Auf der inhaltlichen Ebene des Romans wird die das Bewusstsein krank machende Wirkung der Medien aufgezeigt. In der ästhetischen Form des Romans werden dagegen Strategien des Buddhismus verwirklicht, die als heilende Gegenmaßnahme verstanden werden können. Methodisch geht die Arbeit zunächst werkimmanent vor und greift dabei auf die kommunikationstheoretisch fundierte Narratologie zurück. Abschließend wird der Roman im Ganzen als «literar-buddhistisch geprägter Antimedienroman» charakterisiert.
