Diese Arbeit sucht nach biblisch-exegetischen Antworten auf die Frage, was es in Bezug auf die Erwählung Israels und auf das Verhältnis der Gemeinde Jesu zu Israel als Volk Gottes bedeutet, dass Gott Israel «nicht verstoßen hat» (Röm 11,1f.). Nach einer Übersicht über die Substitutionstheorie in Geschichte und Gegenwart wird die bleibende Erwählung Israels nach Röm 9-11 exegetisch begründet. Alsdann geht es um das Verhältnis der Gemeinde Jesu zu Israel als Volk Gottes und um die Bedeutung des Neuen Bundes für diese Verhältnisbestimmung. Schwerpunkt der letzten Kapitel ist die Frage nach der verheißenen Wiederherstellung der Herrschaft Gottes für Israel aus der Sicht des Neuen Testaments und nach ihrer Beziehung zu der «tausendjährigen Königsherrschaft» Jesu Christi (Offb 20,1-6).
