Das vorliegende Buch zielt darauf ab, kognitive Aktivierung als Merkmal domänenspezifischer Unterrichtsqualität für den Anfangsunterricht im Lesen zu konzeptualisieren, das Konstrukt für die videobasierte Erfassung zu operationalisieren und somit den Leseunterricht beschreibbar zu machen. Welche Aspekte umfasst das Unterrichtsqualitätsmerkmal kognitive Aktivierung im Leseunterricht der Grundschule? Und gelingt es Lehrpersonen, kognitiv aktivierende Leseübungen zu gestalten? Um diese Fragen zu beantworten, wurden 48 videografierte Leseübungen aus dem Forschungsprojekt PERLE („Persönlichkeits- und Lernentwicklung von Grundschulkindern“) mithilfe niedrig bis hoch inferenter Beobachtungssysteme ausgewertet. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass den Lehrpersonen das Schaffen lernförderlicher Rahmenbedingungen gut gelingt, während das Potenzial des Unterrichts zur kognitiven Aktivierung der Schüler nicht ausgeschöpft wird.
