    Format: 1 online resource (VI, 150 p. 1 illus.)
    Edition: 1st ed. 2025.
    ISBN: 9783658470494 , 3658470496
Content: While the issue of Ukraine is engaging the public and fostering a greater interest in foreign and security policy topics, global economic policy issues and debates largely pass most people by and are primarily discussed by economists and economic historians. Unlike during the Euro crisis, whose complexities overwhelmed society as a whole, questions about supply chains, resource security, and technological change have now reached the press and media. However, for most people, the necessity of a related paradigm shift in German foreign and economic policy is not evident. This is particularly true for the increasing importance of using economic means to enforce (power) political interests – in other words, the new "geoeconomics". This book situates the scientific findings and debates surrounding this term in the context of the global confrontation between the USA, China, and Europe, translating them into language that everyone can understand. The author contributes to the public debate in Germany with this essay and therefore addresses the interested public. The Author Dr. Stefan Fröhlich was a Professor of International Politics and Political Economy at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and teaches at various prestigious universities in Germany and abroad. He is known in academia, the public sphere, and the media as an expert on German foreign and economic policy as well as global order issues. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence. A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content. This book is a translation of an original German edition. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation.
Note: The global turning point has already occurred -- The beginning of the post-American era -- The geoeconomic maps of the future -- Germany's departure from the previous economic model -- Conclusion: The end of Western illusions.
