Es sei y eine in der Um ter gebung von X analytische Lösung einer Differentialgleichung n Ord o nung, und es sei auf einem von X ausgehenden Wege l in der kom o plexen x-Ebene Xl die erste singuläre Stelle, welche getroffe~ wird. Konvergieren dann y und seine n - 1 ersten Ableitungen bei Annähe rung an Xl nach festen endlichen oder unendlich großen Werten, so hat man in Xl eine Singularität von der Art, wie sie im Referat II A 4a (P. Painleve) wenigstens für die einfachsten Fälle besprochen sind; wenn aber entweder y oder mindestens eine seiner n - 1 ersten Ab leitungen bei Annäherung an Xl auf dem Wege 1 nach keinem be stimmten Wert konvergiert, so kennt man in Xl weder gewöhnliche noch außergewöhnliche Anfangsbedingungen; Xl ist dann für y eine Unbestimmtheitsstelle. Des weiteren unterscheidet man bei gewöhn liche~ Differentialgleichungen zweierlei Arten von si~ulären Punkten der Lösungen, nämlich: a) feste singuläre Stellen, das sind singuläre Stellen, welche von den Integrationskonstanten nicht abhängen; b) verschiebbare singuläre Stellen, d. h. solche singuläre Stellen, welche durch Änderung der Integrationskonstanten verschoben werden können.
