Ted erzählt der Flughafenbekanntschaft Lily von der Untreue seiner Frau Miranda, die ihn mit dem Bauunternehmer ihres neuen Hauses betrügt. Nach Lilys Auffassung hat Miranda damit den Tod verdient und sie schlägt vor, sie zu ermorden. Zunächst überrascht, stimmt Ted zu und die beiden entwickeln einen Plan. Der neue Thriller des amerikanischen Autors P. Swanson (Debüt vgl. "Die Unbekannte", ID-A 32/14) beginnt wie "Zwei Fremde im Zug" von P. Highsmith, nimmt aber eine andere, überraschende Wendung. Abwechselnd aus Sicht der Protagonisten (Ted, Lily, Miranda sowie Detektive Kimball) erzählt, ist er raffiniert, aber dennoch geradlinig konstruiert und kann die Spannung bis zum Schluss halten. Die Charaktere werden einfühlsam und glaubwürdig geschildert. So entwickelt der Leser z.B. für die schöne, geheimnisvolle Einzelgängerin Lily, eine Bibliothekarin, trotz ihrer Neigung zum Mord fast Sympathie. Ein sehr gelungener, fesselnder Thriller, der ohne unnötige Schnörkel oder die überflüssig ausgiebige Schilderung von Brutalität auskommt und einige überraschende Wendungen parat hält. Sehr empfohlen.
