Adelige Frauen veränderten das Erscheinungsbild des französischen Königshofs nachhaltig. Über ihre etabliertesten Vertreterinnen, die höfischen Amtsträgerinnen, ist jedoch bisher wenig bekannt. Für die Regierungszeit Ludwigs XIV. legt die Autorin nun eine grundlegende Untersuchung weiblicher Hofämter vor, die sowohl die Rahmenbedingungen für die Amtsausübung adeliger Frauen offenlegt als auch ihre zentrale Rolle als Akteurinnen der höfischen Gesellschaft aufzeigt. Im Fokus der Arbeit steht die Relevanz ihres Geschlechts für die Wahrnehmung von Handlungsspielräumen an einem der bedeutendsten Höfe der Frühen Neuzeit.
