Der bislang noch nicht hinreichend erschlossene Text wird auf der Grundlage der handschriftlichen Überlieferung ediert, übersetzt und kommentiert. The Lower Rhine Orient report leads us straight into the Oriental world as it was researched by an observer from the Rhine area in the middle of the 14th century. The author, who is not known by name, presents the variety of religions in the Orient and he is above all interested in customs, habits and different ways of living. He has a certain sense for political moves and constellations of power in foreign societies and shows an expressive, religious forbearance for the historic conditions. The up to now not efficiently deciphered text will be edited, translated and commented on the basis of the handwritten records.
