Das Konzept der Meta-Organisation bietet eine bessere Erklärung dafür, warum sich die Weltverbände des Sports so verhalten, wie sie sich verhalten. Es taugt nicht nur für die Analyse der Sportwelt, sondern ist anschlussfähig an aktuelle Debatten über Governance, Global Governance und Good Governance und darüber hinaus.

External pressure is considered one of the factors that force organizations to reform. In the case of international sports organizations, this does not seem to be true: Although the IOC, FIFA and quite a few other federations have been criticized for years, they unwaveringly stick to their policies. Their behavior and some of the decisions they make are usually explained by a lack of decency, greed and corruption. However, this explanation falls short. The concept of meta-organization offers a better explanation of why world sports federations behave the way they do. It is not only suitable for analyzing the world of sport, but it is connectable to current debates on governance, global governance, good governance, and beyond.
