Erzählt wird die Geschichte zweier böser Buben mit Namen Robin und Ben. Rob ist frech und dreist, er wird Pirat und führt ein in jeder Hinsicht erfolgreiches wüstes Seeräuberleben. Ben ist ein eher Stiller, er schleimt herum, wird Apotheker, "ist gemein auf feine Weise", gibt z.B. einem Kind für die todkranke Mutter Wasser statt Arznei in die Flasche und nimmt dafür Gold. Wagenbreth hat die Story mit Illustrationen von expressiver Ausgelassenheit kongenial in Szene gesetzt. Alle Farben, vor allem Rot, Schwarz und Gelb, haben überwältigend kraftvolle Auftritte.
