Wie beginnt die politische Mitsprache einer “Randgruppe”? Zwischen Mitte der 1840er Jahre und 1919, einer Zeit, die Frauen trotz sozialer Umwälzungen das "Stimm"-Recht im Sinne des öffentlichen Sprechens, der rechtlichen Selbstbe"stimm"ung und der politischen "Stimm"abgabe weitgehend absprach, bedeutete das Veröffentlichen von Selbstzeugnissen für sie eine Möglichkeit, ihre persönlichen Stimmen in öffentliche Diskurse einzubringen. "Mit Sprache" eroberten sie sich "Mitsprache" in der Polis und nahmen zur Frauenfrage, sozialen Frage, Kolonialismus und Krieg Stellung. Die Untersuchung literarischer und nichtliterarischer Selbstzeugnisse von fünf Frauen aus drei Generationen eröffnet Einblicke in die soziale Dimension von textlichen Selbstkonstruktionen und den Erwerb von “agency” trotz Ausgrenzung. Die Verknüpfung literaturwissenschaftlicher, gender-geschichtlicher und politischer Fragestellungen setzt neue Impulse für die interdisziplinäre Selbstzeugnis- und Autobiographieforschung.
