Ladendiebstähle sind der Alltag der Jugendkriminalität. Sie gehören zu den im Jugendalter am häufigsten begangenen Delikten und stellen nicht selten die einzige begangene Straftat während der Jugendphase dar. Die Studie beschreibt und erklärt für das besondere Beispiel des Ladendiebstahls allgemeine Motive und Hindernisse für Diebstahlsdelikte von Jugendlichen. Hierfür werden zunächst polizeilich registrierte Delikte, also Informationen zum Hellfeld der Diebstahlskriminalität, analysiert. Den Schwerpunkt bilden dann Auswertungen aus Dunkelfeldstudien, die seit dem Jahr 2000 mit Schülerinnen und Schülern in Münster, Bocholt und Duisburg erhoben wurden. Ein handlungstheoretisch fundiertes Mehrebenenmodell wird hierfür favorisiert und leitet die Analysen. Mit Hilfe von Strukturgleichungsmodellen wird das sozialpsychologische Modell der 'Theorie des geplanten Verhaltens' anhand von Querschnitts- und Paneldaten empirisch überprüft.
