Die von Waris Dirie gegründete Foundation will den Kampf gegen weibliche Genitalverstümmelung zukünftig über Projekte zur gezielten Förderung von afrikanischen Frauen und Mädchen und der Schaffung von Arbeitsplätzen für Frauen führen. Die UN-Botschafterin erzählt im vorliegenden Titel von der Entstehung dieser Idee und vermittelt dazu zahlreiche Infos zur aktuellen politischen, wirtschaftlichen und humanitären Misere des schwarzen Kontinents. In loser Fortsetzung von "Schmerzenskinder" erzählt Dirie daneben von den Dreharbeiten zu ihrem Roman "Wüstenblume" (vgl. DVD: IN 12/10). Als Star und Menschenrechtsaktivistin gefeiert, wird sie gleichzeitig mit dem europäischen Alltagsrassismus konfrontiert. Zwischendurch klingt immer wieder die Sehnsucht nach ihrem Heimatkontinent an - ein Wunsch, den sie sich zuletzt durch die Rückkehr nach Afrika erfüllt. Die gekürzte Hörfassung (Buchausg. vgl.
