Während "Die fotografische Inszenierung des Verbrechens" (ID-G 4/20) direkt in die Hölle von Auschwitz führt, zeigen die Fotoalben Johann Niemanns, des stellvertretenden Kommandanten des polnischen Vernichtungslagers Sobibor, ähnlich dem "Höcker-Album" (ID-G 19/16) nicht das Grauen selbst, sondern den Alltag im Hintergrund. Die sorgfältige Edition enthält rund 80% der erhaltenen Fotos, überwiegend aus Sobibor, aber auch von anderen Wirkungsstätten und Lebensstationen Niemanns, den aufständische Juden 1943 in Sobibor töteten. Die in hervorragender Druckqualität z.T. kleinformatig wiedergegebenen Fotos sind, soweit möglich, mit Informationen zu den Dargestellten versehen. Dazu erläutern fachkundige wissenschaftliche Aufsätze die historiografische Bedeutung der Fotos, erhellen die Biografie Niemanns (und seiner Frau) und beleuchten aus unterschiedlichen Blickwinkeln das in Sobibor, Belzec und Treblinka realisierte Vernichtungsprogramm der "Aktion Reinhardt".
