Klappentext: Drama und Theater inszenieren "Zeit" bei der Darstellung eines Geschehens in einer Weise, die konkretes Wissen über die Genese politischer Imaginationen transportiert. Die vorliegende Studie macht sich zur Aufgabe, die spezifischen Formationen von Zeitlichkeit bei der Dramatisierung der großen politischen und gesellschaftlichen Veränderungen in Europa um 1800 zu untersuchen. Dabei offenbart sich einerseits der Wunsch nach einer frei gestaltbaren politischen Zukunft und andererseits das dringende Bedürfnis nach Traditionen und politischer Beständigkeit angesichts neuer Unsicherheiten. Bei der Untersuchung der auf der Bühne reflektierten Zeitlichkeiten des Politischen wird deutlich, dass alte Zeitvorstellungen zwar vehement verteidigt wurden und ihre Kontinuität erwiesen, gleichzeitig aber neue Zeitkonzepte geprägt wurden. Sie konfigurierten die Vorstellungen von modernen politischen Formen wie Demokratie, Republik, Verfassung, Bürokratie und Rechtsstaat. Die in zahlreichen Detailanalysen hervortretenden Zeit-Poetiken der Dramen offenbaren eine Pluralität dramatischer Eigenzeiten, die auf einen Wandel politischer Zeitlichkeit und damit politischer Imaginationen schlechthin verweisen.
