So sehr Comic-Adaptionen mancher Romane oder Meistererzählungen durchaus ihre Berechtigung haben, fragt man sich doch, ob eine Adaption klassischer Texte immer vonnöten ist. Dabei ist im vorliegenden Werk die Bildsprache des versierten Zeichners Stetter (s. "Bonhoeffer" ID-A 9/11) nicht zu verachten: Es gelingt ihm in düsteren Illustrationen die beunruhigend aufgeladene Atmosphäre der kafkaschen Erzählung überzeugend zu transportieren. Aber muss man einen Text, der so interpretationsoffen und sprachlich einzigartig ist, unbedingt grafisch umsetzen? Sicherlich haben Adaptionen den Reiz, Inhalte anspruchsvoller Texte auf einer anderen Ebene textfernen Lesern zugänglich zu machen. Nur handelt es sich eben nicht mehr um das Original, sondern eine Interpretation. Sicherlich wird auch dieses Werk, das sich in eine Vielzahl von Kafka-Adaptionen des Knesebeck-Verlags einreiht ("Die Verwandlung", ID-A 51/52/10, "Der Process", ID-A 27/13, "Das Schloss", ID-A 18/14) seine Leser finden; ergänzend zum genuinen Werk.
