Populäre Darstellung. in erzählendem Ton, des militärischen Lebenswegs von Günther Prien: Als Oberleutnant zur See und 1 Wachoffizier auf U 26 nahm er an zwei Einsätzen in spanischen Gewässern zur Wahrung der deutschen Interessen im spanischen Bürgerkrieg teil. Am 19381217 übernahm er das Kommando auf U 47, mit dem er auf seiner zweiten Feindfahrt am 19391014 in den uneinnehmbar geltenden englischen Hafen von Scapa Flow eindrang und das britische Schlachtschiff Royal Oak versenkte. Es folgten sieben weitere Feindfahrten auf U 47, die ihn mit einem Gesamtversenkungserfolg von über 162000 BRT Handelsschiffsraum und der Versenkung des Schlachschiffes Royal Oak mit 29150 ts zu einem der erfolgreichsten deutschen UBoot-Kommandanten des 2 Weltkriegs machte. Ausgezeichnet mit dem Eichenlaub zum Ritterkreuz lief Günther Prien am 19410220 mit U 47 zu seiner zehnten und letzten Feindfahrt aus, von der das Boot und seine Besatzung nicht zurückkehrte. (MOD)
