Bis kurz nach 1300 entstand mit dem Kloster Chorin jene elegante Backsteinarchitektur, deren Formendekor für die folgenden Bauten nicht nur der askanischen Markgrafen prägend war. Das Kloster Chorin gilt völlig zu Recht in der aktuellen Architekturgeschichtsschreibung als Höhepunkt gotischer Klosterbaukunst in der Mark Brandenburg. - - Ab 1810 hat sich Karl-Friedrich Schinkel als Mitglied der Oberbaudeputation, die nach Kabinettsorder Friedrich Wilhelms III. alle baulichen Veränderungen an "Denkmälern" in Preußen zu prüfen und zu billigen hatte, um die Erhaltung der Klosterruine bemüht. Der preußische Hofgartendirektor Peter Joseph Lenné wurde in den dreißiger Jahren des 19. Jahrhunderts von der königlichen Regierung in Potsdam mit dem Entwurf für eine gestalterische Aufwertung des Klosterumfeldes beauftragt. Die frühen Erhaltungsbemühungen zu diesem Zeitpunkt und die damaligen Konzeptionen begründeten eine stark methodische Denkschule und Tradition der staatlichen Denkmalpflege, die bis heute in Chorin selbst, im Land Brandenburg und in Deutschland weiter entwickelt wurde. - - Es folgten im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert sowie in den 1950er und 1970er Jahren engagierte Restaurierungskampagnen zur Erhaltung der Klosterruine. In dieser Tradition war der brandenburgischen Denkmalpflege zusammen mit ihren Partnern im Land und vor Ort die Konservierung, Restaurierung und denkmalgerechte Nutzung immer ein großes Anliegen. Seit 1994 gab es daher erfolgreiche Anstrengungen, die Bausubstanz nachhaltig zu sichern
