"Etwas Seltenes überhaupt" nannte der Journalist Rudolf Olden Gabriele Tergit, die mit ihrem Roman "Käsebier erobert den Kurfürstendamm" berühmt wurde. Zweifelsfrei gehört sie zu den bemerkenswertesten und mutigsten Frauen des 20. Jahrhunderts. Als erste weibliche Gerichtsreporterin der Weimarer Republik machte sie anhand scheinbar unbedeutender Fälle auf die großen Problematiken ihrer Epoche aufmerksam. Aus der Position einer sozialkritischen Beobachterin heraus beschrieb sie die Gewalt und den zunehmenden Einfluss der Nationalsozialisten. Diese setzten Gabriele Tergit ganz oben auf die Liste politischer Gegner, was sie schließlich, nachdem sie in der Nacht ihres 39. Geburtstags von einem SA-Trupp bedroht wurde, zur Flucht aus Deutschland zwang. Ihr zweiter Roman "Effingers", der das Schicksal einer jüdischen Familie in Berlin schildert, erschien im Jahr 1951. Eine Sammlung ihrer Gerichtsreportagen wurde erst posthum publiziert, ebenso ihre eindrücklichen Erinnerungen "Etwas Seltenes überhaupt"
