Dieser Sammelband präsentiert die Vorträge des 7. Internationalen Otto Gross Kongresses vom 3. bis 5. Oktober 2008 in Dresden. In Dresden liegen mit dem Wirken der Künstlervereinigung "Brücke" nicht nur die Anfänge des Expressionismus, die Elbmetropole kann auch als eines der Zentren des späten Expressionismus gelten. Die Aufbruchstimmung am Ende des Ersten Weltkrieges umfasste alle Kunstschaffenden. Die Ordnung und Ideale der Väter hatten versagt. Die Suche nach einer neuen Sozietät mit einer tragfähigen Basis stand auf der Tagesordnung. Leben und Vorstellungen des österreichischen Arztes, Psychoanalytikers und Revolutionärs Otto Gross (1877-1920) waren Vorbilder für Dresdener Intellektuelle wie z.B. die Dichterin Bess Brenck Kalischer oder für Heinrich Goesch. Die provozierenden Ideen von Otto Gross halfen den Emanzipationsbestrebungen der jungen Generation auf der Suche nach einer neuen Identität. Der Band enthält Ergebnisse einer Spurensuche nach Entwicklungen, die weit in das 20. Jahrhundert hinein die moderne Kultur prägten und zum Teil vergessen wurden.
