Das Brücke-Mitglied Max Pechstein (1881-1955) hat ein facettenreiches Oeuvre hinterlassen: neben Gemälden und Zeichnungen auch Wandmalereien, Mosaiken und Glasfenster. Zur umfangreichen Werkschau in Kiel (bis 09.01.2011, dann Regensburg und Ahlen) erschien ein reich illustrierter Bildband, der ein gelungener Querschnitt durch Pechsteins Gesamtschaffen ist. Für ihn typische, hier gut reproduzierte farbintensive Arbeiten zeigen sehr unterschiedliche Sujets: Maritimes und religiöse Motive, Landschaften und Porträts. Seine Reisen, insbesondere die Südseereise 1913/14, haben ihn - wie die anderen Brücke-Mitglieder - nachhaltig beeindruckt (vgl. "Die Brücke in der Südsee", BA 2/06). 8 aufschlussreiche Wortbeiträge setzten sich intensiv mit seinem Schaffen auseinander. Gut ausgestattete Gesamtdarstellung zu Leben und Werk dieses Pioniers der Moderne, die eine echte Bestandslücke füllt (zu Pechstein hier zuletzt BA 4/97!). Einzusetzen wie "Karl Schmidt-Rottluff - Formen und Farbe" (BA 8/07), "Ernst Ludwig Kirchner - Retrospektive" (BA 8/10); "Erich Heckel - Aufbruch und Tradition" (BA 8/10). (2) (LK/HA: Stegers)
