Mit der Einschulungsfeier wird das Kind Mitglied einer gesellschaftlichen Bildungsinstitution und erhält den Status eines Schülers, ohne tatsächlich schon über die notwendigen Kenntnisse der damit verbundenen Anforderungen zu verfügen. Die vorliegende ethnographische Studie dokumentiert, wie das Kind erst durch eigenes Erleben und Erfahrung die Fähigkeit erwirbt, adäquat am Schulleben zu partizipieren und damit ein Schulkind (im wörtlichen Sinn: schulfähig) zu werden. Über die Wissensvermittlung hinaus konstituieren in der Schulanfangsphase alle Beteiligten eine schulspezifische Lernkultur, die über rituelles, mimetisches und soziales Lernen sehr individuell verarbeitet und im gemeinschaftlichen Handeln zum Ausdruck gebracht wird.
