Nachdem sie sich jahrzehntelang friedlich, aber erfolglos für ihre Rechte eingesetzt hatten, gingen sie auf die Straße, sie warfen Scheiben ein, sie traten in den Hungerstreik und sie kämpften - in Deutschland, Österreich, England und den USA. Dabei wurden die Suffragetten, wie man sie despektierlich nannte, verspottet, gedemütigt, geschlagen, verhaftet, zwangsernährt und wie Menschen zweiter Klasse behandelt.
