This book represents a field guide to a set of selected archaeological sites of Bohemia, the western part of the Czech Republic. A total of 105 archaeological sites were chosen to represent the archaeological heritage of the country. Most of them are sites where archaeological features are visible on the surface, either as specific shapes of terrain relief or as ruins of stone and brick structures. Just a few sites have been added for other reasons, e.g. as places of important archaeological excavations or museums presenting important local finds. While most of the truly important archaeological sites of Bohemia appear here, our selection was not limited to this criterion; we rather tried to select and present monuments which are typical and comprehensible examples of particular types of archaeological sites within the broad spectrum of their various forms, functions and age.
