    Inhalt: This volume represents the founding act of a proposal for training, didactic, study and research work which aims at enhancing historical knowledge in the field of education and educational professionalism. The contributions intend to highlight the identity and usefulness of history and, in particular, of the history of education, not only for every education level, but for the life of local communities itself. At the same time, the authors aim at suggesting a desirable development of the history of education by adopting a Public History approach. This way, academic knowledge can actually be brought into contact with educational contexts, much more so than it has been done so far, in order to respond, together with other disciplines, to the emerging social needs. The Public History of Education, intended this way, can create new profitable relationships between formal and informal education, between the past and present of educators and teachers, between the world of research, cultural institutes (above all, museums) and society.

He is the author of several publications on pedagogical and educational issues during the 19th and 20th centuries in a historical and social perspective, with particular focus on methodological and historiographic reflections and on digital documentation. Since 2016, he has been the co-director of the magazine «Rivista di storia dell'educazione».Stefano Oliviero is Associate Professor of History of Pedagogy at the University of Florence. His research has focused on the political and social history of educational institutions, and on the history of scholarly publishing. In recent years, he has studied school and educational memoires and, above all, the relationship between education and consumerism. [Publisher's text]
    Inhalt: Il volume costituisce l'atto fondativo di una proposta di lavoro formativo, didattico, di studio e ricerca che intende valorizzare i saperi storici nell'ambito dell'educazione e delle professionalità educative. I contributi intendono mettere in evidenza l'identità e l'utilità della storia e, in particolare, della storia dell'educazione non solo per tutti i gradi scolastici, ma per la vita stessa delle comunità locali. Allo stesso tempo mirano a proporre un auspicabile sviluppo della storia dell'educazione attraverso l'adozione di un approccio di Public History.
