Format: 1 online resource (277 pages)
    Edition: 1st ed. 2024.
    ISBN: 9789819717736
Content: The rapid pace of economic development and urbanization in Asia have led to several major problems such as greenhouse gas emissions, mass consumption, and depletion of natural resources. These problems pose a major threat to a sustainable future for Asia and are hindering many Asian countries' goal of becoming carbon-neutral by the middle of this century. Solving these problems requires a comprehensive understanding of the nature of energy consumption, exploitation of natural resources, and deterioration of the environment. To accelerate the green energy transition and promote efficient resource use in Asia, a range of policy options and joint efforts among Asian countries will be required, including carbon pricing, resource tax reform, the expansion of transition finance, support for the development of low-carbon, and resource-efficient social infrastructure. However, Asia is home to many countries, each in a different stage of economic development and with its own culture and customs. Practical implementation of these policies will require bringing together researchers, policymakers, and citizens to share their knowledge and engage in discussions to generate policy ideas that are appropriate for each country. The purpose of this book is to share theoretical and empirical knowledge and convey policy implications that can be expected to accelerate energy transition and resource use effectiveness toward a sustainable future in Asia. .
Note: Introduction -- PART Ⅰ: Green Energy Transition Toward Carbon Neutrality in Asian Countries -- Chapter 1: Price Elasticities of Electricity Demand as a Proxy for Direct Rebound Effects: A Meta-Analytical Comparison in the Asian Context -- Chapter 2: Should Carbon Tax Revenues be Earmarked for Renewable Energy Development: The Case of Countries in East Asia Region? -- Chapter 3: Carbon Market Linkage of China, Japan and Korea and Its Decarbonization Impacts on Economies and Environment: E3ME Application Case Study -- Chapter 4: Economic Instruments and Their Revenue Expenditures toward Green Asia -- PART Ⅱ: Protecting Eco System and Biodiversity in Asian Countries -- Chapter 5: Marine Protected Area Beyond the Biophysical Justifications: A Case Study of the Costs and Benefits of Establishing and Managing 3 MPAs in Thailand -- Chapter 6: The Ripple Effect: Exploring the Impact of Ecosystem Service Degradation on Cultural Ecosystem Services and Human Well-being -- Chapter 7: Assessing theRecreational and Educational Value of Taipei Zoo -- PART Ⅲ: Environmental and climate change issues in Asian countries -- Chapter 8: Does an Imaginary Trip to the Future Increase the Contribution to Climate Change Mitigation? -- Chapter 9: A Review of The Literature on The Economics of Household Air Pollution from Solid Fuel Usage -- Chapter 10: Shaped by Waters: The Role of Major Floods in Jakarta's Urban Form Evolution -- Conclusion.
