The new edition of the Dictionary of Librarianship has been thoroughly revised and brought up-to-date, reflecting current levels of theory and practice in librarianship. Including 2,551 more entries than the previous, second edition. The third edition of this dictionary contains a total of 28,850 entries - 13,889 in the German-English part, and 14,961 in English-German. This amounts to an increase of 2,551 entries over the second edition. The disproportionate increase of English terms reflects the fact, that new developments in librarianship have their origins in the Anglo-American area. All entries are followed by subject field classifications, which indicate the context of each term where doubt may arise. Further, individual terms are provided with additional explanatory notes, and definition sources denote standardized terminology used in cataloguing codes, e.g. the RAK or AACR2. This publication is of great value to the librarian who comes into contact with the English and German technical languages of information science, documentation, bibliology, the book trade, reprography, higher education, and electronic data processing.

Particularly important among them are multilingual scientifio and technical dictionaries. This English-German-French-Dutch-Russian Dictionary of Scientifio and Technical Terms contains some 9000 entries. The main fea­ ture of the Dictionary is that it includes first and foremost general scientific terms needed by an engineer working in any branch of science and technology. Besides, the Dictionary includes the basic terms used in physics, mathemat­ ics, the fundamentals of electrical engineering and chemistry, and also the most essential terms pertaining to manufacturing processes. machine design, testing methods, etc. The Compilers were confronted with a difficult task, as nowadays science and technology are developing rapidly and the minimum scientific and tech­ nical vocabulary required by a specialist is increasing accordingly. The Compilers have taken special pains to include the entire basic mod­ ern technical vocabulary, omitting superfluous words and phrases. They have tried to solve this problem by selecting mainly those scientific and tech­ nical terms which constitute the basic of a specialised vocabulary.
