Das Buch untersucht die Ehedarstellung in deutscher Literatur der Jahrhundertwende und malischer Literatur von Frauen. Anhand eines gesellschaftstheoretischen Ansatzes und der literarischen Subversions- und Reflexionsmöglichkeiten nimmt der Band im interkulturell geschärften Vergleich eine sozialgeschichtliche und diskurskritische Analyse vor. Es wird der Frage nachgegangen, in welchem Maß die ausgewählten Romane als emanzipatorische Werke verstanden werden können und inwiefern die Autorinnen auf die soziokulturellen Bedingungen der Frau verweisen, um die Unterdrückungsmechanismen der männlichen Herrschaft zu entlarven
