Content: Translation scholars have for a long time been arguing in favor of a shift in paradigms to redefine the relationship between translation and the spreading of knowledge. Although a substantial share of worldwide knowledge is conveyed thanks to translation, the effects of this state of affairs upon the ways in which knowledge is actually built are all too rarely taken into account. This is particularly the case in the humanities. The papers presented in this volume fall into three thematic categories – cultural transfer, terminology and literature. The authors are all scholars in the humanities, and some of them are also translators. They analyze the effects of translation in diverse domains such as the intercultural exchanges among Far Eastern countries, and between Asia and the West; the constitution of terminologies; clinical practices in psychoanalysis; and the impact on the definition of literary genres. Each contribution shows how the act of translation is an integral part of the humanities, producing effects which may often be unforeseen and surprising but are always occasions for innovation. This volume contains contributions in English and French.

Content: L'ouvrage Parcours de traduction. Étude expérimentale du processus de compréhension est le double produit d'une réflexion sur le sens et d'une étude expérimentale des processus de compréhension en traduction. Il repose sur l'hypothèse de base que les processus de compréhension sont au moins partiellement observables, en particulier lorsque le sujet met en jeu des stratégies conscientes pour tenter de résoudre une difficulté de traduction. La partie expérimentale de l'ouvrage s'appuie sur des résultats d'expérience de traduction et sur des tests de compréhension et de connaissances. Les conclusions de cette recherche soulignent la place de la compréhension comme sujet d'étude en traductologie, ainsi que l'importance des modèles de représentation du sens (modèles logiques, linguistiques, cognitifs, etc.) pour la mesure de l'adéquation sémantique du texte traduit par rapport au texte à traduire. On y démontre que la compréhension n'est pas toujours le résultat d'une opération immédiate et globale mais qu'elle s'élabore par degrés et qu'elle est perfectible. Nous avançons l'idée qu'elle consiste, pour une grande part, à réorganiser des connaissances et à en créer de nouvelles. Le schéma de la double hélice, métaphore illustrant les deux volets du travail du traducteur - Compréhension et Production d'équivalence - permet de dégager les caractéristiques principales de l'acte de traduction, ses étapes, ses contraintes et l'interdépendance des opérations. Par cette contribution, nous espérons, à long termes, faciliter le développement d'outils pédagogiques dont a grandement besoin la traductologie à l'heure où l'automatisation de la traduction exige de plus en plus du traducteur, qu'il soit ou non placé en situation d'interface avec la machine, de comprendre les mécanismes de l'analyse de texte et les techniques de traitement (humain) du langage
