    Edition: 1st ed. 2024.
    ISBN: 9789819735846
Series Statement: Uncertainty and Operations Research,
Content: This book systematically explores theories related to linguistic computational models and group decision making methods under uncertainty. It introduces innovative linguistic computational models capable of fusing complex linguistic information, including multi-granular linguistic information, unbalanced linguistic information and hesitant fuzzy linguistic information. Building upon the linguistic computational models, this book presents methods tailored to various types of group decision making problems under uncertainty. Additionally, it delves into group decision making problems where the personalized individual semantics of experts are considered. The book also showcases practical applications of the proposed group decision making methods, ranging from ERP system supplier selection to talent recruitment, subway line selection, and location selection for electric vehicle charging stations. By shedding light on novel models for modeling complex linguistic information and introducing new approaches to addressing linguistic group decision making challenges, this book offers valuable insights for engineers, researchers, and postgraduates interested in decision analysis, operations research, computational intelligence, management science and engineering, and related fields.

Content: How do people learn language? This volume concerns human learning in general and the ability to acquire second, foreign and native languages in particular. It is generally agreed that there are three quite different types of human learning: implicit learning (a non-conscious, automatic abstraction of structure); explicit learning (where, as in problem solving, the learner searches for information and builds and tests hypotheses), and learning as a result of explicit instruction. But how do these processes result in language acquisition? The motivation for this book is that no one discipline can answer this question. In order to help people learn languages, we need an understanding of the cognitive processes involved. This volume brings together contributions from key researchers in psychology, linguistics, philosophy, computing and neuroscience to determine separate types of human learning, their representations and their interactions
Content: Implicit and Explicit Learning of Languages presents the first of such collaborative insights into language acquisition and instruction, with particular emphasis on second language learning. It will be essential reading for students, researchers and practitioners in applied linguistics, cognitive science, cognitive psychology and second language acquisition

Content: It is not unusual for contemporary linguists to claim that "Modern Linguistics began in 1957" (with the publication of Noam Chomsky's Syntactic Structures). Some of the essays in Chomskyan (R)evolutions examine the sources, the nature and the extent of the theoretical changes Chomsky introduced in the 1950s. Other contributions explore the key concepts and disciplinary alliances that have evolved considerably over the past sixty years, such as the meanings given for "Universal Grammar", the relationship of Chomskyan linguistics to other disciplines (Cognitive Science, Psychology, Evolutionary Biology), and the interactions between mainstream Chomskyan linguistics and other linguistic theories active in the late 20th century: Functionalism, Generative Semantics and Relational Grammar. The broad understanding of the recent history of linguistics points the way towards new directions and methods that linguistics can pursue in the future.

Content: This book provides a systematic and comprehensive overview of AI and machine learning which have got the ability to identify patterns in large and complex data sets. A remarkable success has been experienced in the last decade by emulating the brain computer interface. It presents the cognitive science methods and technologies that have played an important role at the core of practical solutions for a wide scope of tasks between handheld apps, industrial process control, autonomous vehicles, environmental policies, life sciences, playing computer games, computational theory, and engineering development. The chapters in this book focuses on audiences interested in machine learning, cognitive and neuro-inspired computational systems, their theories, mechanisms, and architecture, which underline human and animal behaviour, and their application to conscious and intelligent systems. In the current version, it focuses on the successful implementation and step-by-step explanation of practical applications of the domain. It also offers a wide range of inspiring and interesting cutting-edge contributions on applications of machine learning and cognitive science such as healthcare products, medical electronics, and gaming.
