Die Entdeckung der »Neuen Welt«, technische Innovationen und humanistische Wiederentdeckungen haben auch in der fiktionalen Literatur ihre Spuren hinterlassen. Begriffe wie »das Neue«, »Erfinden« und »Innovation« werden in der Literatur des 16. Jahrhunderts verhandelt. Besonders bei Rabelais` »Gargantua« und seiner deutschsprachigen Bearbeitung bei Fischart in der »Geschichtklitterung«, aber auch bei Autoren wie Michael Lindener oder dem 1560 anonym erschienenen »Finckenritter« wird das Neue thematisiert.Anhand einer interdisziplinären Lektüre der Texte, welche in diesem Band zum ersten Mal in einem größeren Kontext zusammen betrachtet werden, zeigt Ronny F. Schulz, dass das Neue, zu dem man eine ablehnende oder bejahende Haltung einnehmen kann, in erster Linie auch eine Frage der Perspektive ist.
