Die Werke «Ein Rufer in der Wüste» (1921) von Jakob Bosshart, «Schweizerspiegel» (1938) von Meinrad Inglin, «Alles in Allem» (1952–1955) von Kurt Guggenheim und «Melnitz» (2006) von Charles Lewinsky, in der kritischen Rezeption oft als «Schweizerspiegel» etikettiert, vermitteln ein komplementäres, großangelegtes, als Zeitgemälde gedachtes Panorama-Bild der Schweiz. Mit der Annäherung an ausgewählte literarästhetische Tendenzen sowie Autoren der deutschsprachigen Schweiz des 20. Jahrhunderts zeigt die Autorin auf, inwieweit sich das Land mitsamt dessen Politik, Geschichte und Gegenwart in seiner Literatur spiegelt und Grundlage für das Konstruieren literarischer Fiktion wird.
