Literarisches Schreiben wird seit der Romantik als Gegenentwurf zur Erwerbsarbeit konzipiert. Allerdings muss auch das literarische Werk entworfen, geschrieben, verlegt, vertrieben und gelesen werden. Die Beiträge des Bandes beschäftigen sich mit den ökonomischen und gesellschaftlichen Bedingungen literarischer Arbeit. In welchem Verhältnis stehen Autor:innenschaft und Arbeit in einer Zeit, in der das Digitale in allen gesellschaftlichen Bereichen das leitende Paradigma ist? Auf welche Konzepte geht dieses Verhältnis historisch zurück? Im Zentrum stehen dabei erstens die (Arbeits-)Bedingungen des Schreibens und damit die materiellen und infrastrukturellen Rahmenbedingungen von Autor:innenschaft. Zweitens geht es um die Akteur:innen des Schreibens, ihre Arbeitsbedingungen und Inszenierungspraktiken im zeitgenössischen Literaturbetrieb sowie Formen der Kollaboration. Drittens beschäftigt sich der Band mit dem Verhältnis zwischen literarischem Schreiben und Brotberufen.
