Asymmetric magnetic reconnection at the magnetopause often has strong magnetic field fluctuations and intense parallel electric fields The magnetic field fluctuations are consistent with a thin, oscillating current sheet that is corrugated along the X line (drift wave) The drift waves appear to drive strong parallel currents which, in turn, generate large‐amplitude parallel electric fields
