Abstract: Planning processes for successful waterproof concrete structures – practice recommendations In waterproof concrete structures (white boxes), the reinforced concrete structure in contact with the soil in combination with planned joint sealings and, if necessary, subsequent crack sealings secures a defined sealing function against ingress of water. The utilization requirements of present waterproof concrete structures are often hardly different from those of above‐ground floors. In order to enable these high‐quality utilizations, the guideline for waterproof concrete structures and its accompanying literature offer essential requirements and specifications for planning and execution of these building parts. Nevertheless, in some cases defective and damage‐prone structures can be found in general practice, which can be traced back e.g. to insufficient technical knowledge and a lack of reliability in the planning process of waterproof concrete structures. In particular, uncertainties often prevail with regard to chronological orders, technical dependencies, interface coordination and responsibilities. This article first describes common problems in general practice and discusses conceptual definitions of stages and elements of planning waterproof concrete structures. In process diagrams, the required steps and intersections for a successful planning of waterproof concrete structures are presented in chronological order with their technical dependencies and assigned to the service phases. A distinction is made between planning constellations with internal and external planner of waterproof concrete structures. The aim is to provide a clear description of the responsibilities, scope of services and practical procedures and dependencies of all the required technical planning steps for both simple and complex structures. Planners are thus provided with further working aids for an everyday problem.
