Abstract:
There is a relation between age and genetics from birth to 100 years in patients with de novo acute myeloid leukemia: after infancy, the frequency of favorable cytogenetic subtypes significantly decreases with increasing age, and most other abnormalities increase. Findings indicate different mechanisms for the pathogenesis of acute myeloid leukemia in infants, children, and older adults; these different mechanisms suggest directions for etiological research and contribute to the more unfavorable prognosis with increasing age.
