Abstract:
The article presents a review of economic, environmental, societal and legal implications of deep‐sea mining (and identifies knowledge gaps). A comparison to terrestrial mining impacts is shown. Deep‐sea mining is a complex issue touching upon natural and social science, economics, and law. Transdisciplinary research and cooperation is required to make deep‐sea mining sustainable.
