Abstract:
What's new? While past investigations of relationships between obesity and ovarian cancer yielded inconclusive results, recent cohort studies have offered new insight, warranting reassessment of potential associations. In this meta‐analysis, the authors found evidence of a nonlinear positive association between ovarian cancer risk and body mass index (BMI) and weight, with a significant association for a BMI of 28 or higher. Risk also rose significantly with increasing height. Thus, strong evidence that greater body fatness increases ovarian cancer risk has amassed from cohort studies, which has important public health implications, particularly in light of rising obesity rates.
