Abstract:
What's new? New prognostic biomarkers for lung cancer are urgently needed. In this study, the authors conducted a meta‐analysis to determine whether a patient's platelet‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (PLR) might be useful for this purpose. They found that elevated PLR did indeed predict poorer overall survival in patients with nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but not in those with small‐cell lung cancer. Because PLR is a non‐invasive serum biomarker, it may prove especially helpful to clinicians in selecting preventive and therapeutic strategies for NSCLC patients.
