Abstract:
What's new? The Mediator complex is a highly conserved protein complex, consisting of 33 subunits, which regulates DNA transcription. Several subunits of the Mediator complex have been associated with cancer subtypes. Here, the authors investigated the role of Mediator subunit CDK19, and its paralog CDK8, in prostate cancer. They performed immunohistochemistry on 1,208 tissue samples to compare the expression levels of the two proteins in different patients. CDK19 and CDK8 expression appears to increase over the course of disease progression, with metastatic and castration‐resistant disease showing the highest levels. They found that CDK19 expression predicted disease aggressiveness and recurrence.
