Abstract:
Luzindole ( N ‐acetyl‐2‐benzyltryptamine) is an antagonist of melatonin‐membrane receptors that has been usually employed to study the signaling pathways involved in the actions of melatonin in different cellular types. Pancreatic stellate cells do not exhibit the typical melatonin‐membrane receptors. Here we present evidence showing that luzindole induces changes in major biomarkers of pancreatic stellate cells. Luzindole might exert direct actions, not related with receptor occupancy, which might be deleterious to the cells and could mislead the observations when it is used to study the actions of melatonin.
