Abstract:
We investigated glucose‐6‐phosphate (G6P) release from ferrihydrite by ligand‐promoted dissolution by oxalate, ascorbate, and desferrioxamine‐B in comparison to orthophosphate (OP). Overall, P release was poorly related to Fe dissolution. Initial release of G6P was higher as compared to OP, likely due to its preferential adsorption at outer surface sites caused by pore size effects. Our data suggest that G6P is potentially more bioavailable ( i.e ., mobilizable) than OP.
