Abstract:
Children with poorer bone health (BH) are younger, have more severe disease and a lower body mass index at diagnosis. An older age of diagnosis is an independent predictor of lower‐than‐expected height velocity in the future. What is Known? Growth failure occurs in up to 85% of children diagnosed with Crohn's disease and persists in up to 40%. Vitamin D plays a role in BH, growth, and intestinal inflammation. Chronic inflammation and undernutrition are key factors behind poor BH and growth failure.
