Abstract:
What's already known about this topic? The incidence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is higher in individuals with Down syndrome (DS) than in the typical population. What does this study add? The diagnosis of ASD in individuals with DS is complex and requires a specific autism assessment protocol. The increased prevalence of ASD in individuals with DS may result from a combination of trisomy of chromosome 21 (Hsa21) and additional genetic variations.
