Abstract:
During the last two decades soil has been freezing later in the Arctic (from 2001‐2017) The presence of unfrozen soils are associated with sustained emissions of methane until January in tundra ecosystems Air temperature does not capture soil conditions in the fall, and shallow soil temperature underestimates the duration of unfrozen soils
